VARMINTS!

After Death Valley another big day of driving, this time above the snowline through Yosemite Sam's back yard.
Karina took the wheel & we set off north taking in a quick detour around Mammoth Lakes. We didn't see any mammoths but the frozen lakes were quite stunning.
A bit of a fault line.

And then it was off to Yosemite Park. We picked up a couple of hitchikers on the way. Proper Californian dudes like Bill & Ted. We gave them a ride to the top of a mountain so they could skateboard back down at 70mph. They're probably dead now.
Yosemite is another great drive. Ear poppingly high mountain roads, alien landscapes, waterfalls, lakes & forests.

Yosemite Park led us out of the Sierra Nevada & into the San Joaquin Valley. After rocks & deserts for a week it was good to see lush green fields. It looked a bit like Teletubbies Land.
As the sun started to set we looked for somewhere to settle down. Modesto was as good a place as any. George Lucas is from there & it's where American Graffiti was set. Thats all I know about Modesto.

We booked into a Super 8, went to Denny's for dinner & got our head down for the push to San Francisco in the morning.
